how about them apples

so david and i discovered the BEST apples ever. they are called honeycrisp apples and unfortunetly they are only harvested for about a month every year. if you have a chance, try them. whats even better is that if you have an HEB nearby they sell the monster version of them...they weigh about a pound a piece.

us open - new york city

as a last hoorah before the baby came, david decided that it would be an awesome experience for both of us to go to new york to see the us open in person. even though im not as big of a tennis buff as david i knew that this would be an awesome trip.

*after a day of travel, we wanted to go into the city to eat dinner, but decided against that and made it an easy night in queens. we were told by the hotel manager that this italian restaurant down the road was one to try. i cannot agree more with him. we had awesome food and such a fun time taking everything in.

*our hotel was really close to the airport, and since they re route the landing during the us open we were able to spend part of the night watching planes coming in really really close.

video

*the next day we spent all day on the grounds of the us open.

first things we saw when we got off the subway. david was SO excited. total kid in a candy store

all of andre agassi's gear from the davis cup. david wishes he could have bid on it.

arthur ashe stadium
the smash zone. testing out his skills.

first match that we watched. doubles-venus & serena semifinal

they won
being interviewed after their win

rafa nadal practice. SO COOL

rafa and uncle tony (his coach)

after watching rafa practice we went and watched one of the mens quarterfinals. del potro (the eventual winner) against cilic

we started in the nosebleeds, but were lucky enough to get some tickets to go courtside for free. it was awesome to watch these guys play so close.
so close

being interviewed after his win

only one more semi finalist spot left

the main event (why we came) to watch nadal in his quarterfinal against gonzalez from chile.

after the first rain delay the blowers came out to dry the court and start play again.
waiting for the rain to stop a second time

david was so tired of waiting. it was cold and wet, but we had to stick it out.

after the second rain delay (it was now 1145 at night) so many people had left that they let everyone pick their own seats. we were courtside again waiting for the match to restart, when everyone had finally found their seats they decided to cancel the match for the night...more rain was coming. BOO

waiting for the subway home. exhausted but upbeat about the awesome day we had.

*our last full day there we decided to spend in the city. even though the weather reports showed no rain in the forecast, it rained all day. even though i have been to the city twice already i wanted david to experience some of the cool things new york has to offer.

times square

rockefeller center

david stuffing his mouth with a true new york city hot dog from a street stand.

tents in bryant park
soaked waiting for the subway home

soaked and tired, but glad to be finally in the hotel room

final dinner. true new york pizza. so greasy and yummy

in heaven

even though the weather was very uncooperative. we had an awesome trip

labor day

david was asked to drive the jeep in the neighborhood labor day parade. although it was 600 degrees outside he took the top off and had more fun than the kiddos.

also once every 7 years or so my mom's birthday lands on labor day also. we had a wonderful labor day bbq/birthday party. always fun.

happy

even if my day is going good, there are certain things that make them even better. thanks honey.

hmm

i sometimes wonder what people are thinking when they put wheels on their car. for example:

opps

my youngest sister elise wanted to bake a cake for david and i for sunday night dessert in celebration of the baby, but unfortunetly added too much baking soda. opps.

san antonio

since we had not taken any kind of vacation during the summer we decided one weekend in august to go to san antonio, with nothing on the agenda, but resting!!!

*went to lunch @ dick's on the riverwalk. pretty interesting experience. its kinda hard to get into the mentality that they are being rude and thats what they are supposed to be doing.

*alamo

*big bear

*getting lost in the mirror maze

*we had a really awesome dinner cruise planned for saturday night. it was fun to eat and hear a little bit more about the san antonio history.

* on our way back from dinner, there was this really cool sign in this store window of all the people that had stolen from them. shows them right :)
* before heading back to houston, david had to take advantage of the tony romas on the riverwalk and get this gigantic platter of ribs.

*walking back to the car

had a fun fun weekend!
